There are thousands of different hemp products out on the market. Some we know quite well, such as tinctures. Others are more obscure and fall into unique niches. CBD nasal sprays fall within the realm of unique niches due to their complexity as a product and the difficulty it takes to make a high quality nasal spray product.

What in the World are CBD Nasal Sprays?

Nasal sprays are designed to deliver corticosteroids, antihistamines, and decongestants in an efficient manner. According to the Cleveland Health Clinic, nasal sprays are designed to do one of three things, depending on what the spray is made for:

  • Target inflammation

  • Treat allergy symptoms

  • Treat congestion

CBD Nasal sprays typically target inflammation, however, depending on the ingredients and formula used, they could be designed to treat allergy symptoms. At the time of this writing, we have no definitive way of knowing if CBD is a proven treatment for allergies given the wide span of symptoms individuals experience. However, many individuals have expressed the opinion that CBD's anti-inflammatory properties have helped lessen their seasonal allergies.

How Do CBD Nasal Sprays Work?

So if you shoot a CBD nasal spray up your nose, how does the CBD work? This is a great question.

According to research published in 2020 and shared by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, " Absorption of CBD through the nose is rapid, within 30 s, with Tmax ≤ 10 min. Cyclodestrins can be used to increase permeability of CBD in the brain because they interact with membranes of epithelium in the nose and are able to open temporarily the tight junctions."

In other words, CBD can be absorbed through the nose quickly. At the time of this writing, however, it is not determined whether or not is quicker than using methods like topical applications or sublingual absorption.

Check with Your Doctor Before Trying CBD Nasal Sprays

Like any other CBD product, CBD nasal sprays can interact with medication already in your system. It is important to discuss the possibility of incorporating CBD nasal sprays in your routine with your physician if you are on any medications or have pre-existing health conditions. We still do not fully know how CBD interacts or what side effects could arise when combined with prescription medication. If you experience any adverse side effects, please seek medical attention immediately.
