The Importance of Third Party Testing
There are a lot of CBD products on the market. In fact, there are so many on the market that it can make choosing the right CBD product difficult. In a previous Hemp Bitch article we discussed how to choose the right CBD product for you, including choosing a product that has been through third party testing.
But why is third party testing important?
Leafly targeted this exact question in an article published in March 2016. They cited various important reasons why third party testing is important including:
Potency
Residual Solvents
Pesticides
You may wonder why exactly those things are important, and that is a great question. Sante Laboratories, a hemp and CBD testing facility based in Texas, answered this question in the best possible way, stating in their site blog, "Without regulatory standards to prevent companies from selling products with poor safety and quality, third-party lab testing can help CBD companies demonstrate responsible practices independently of federal mandates."
Right now, there is very little regulation for finished hemp products. While the USDA has required states to submit a Hemp Production Plan for approval, each state has its own particular guidelines on how hemp is regulated.
Third party testing is a way to allow legitimate companies honest and transparent information about the products they sell. It's also a way for consumers to rule out the shady companies selling fake products.
Right now, the hemp industry is in its wild west phase. Third party testing is an important tool in helping consumers find products they can rely on while regulation is scarce.
