Hemp Seeds...More Than Just a Fad

I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia when I was 13. As a result, I have always maintained a high protein diet to help regulate my blood sugar. So it made sense when I began looking at healthy, high protein options to add to my diet, I looked at hemp seeds.

I was a little put off of hemp seeds when they really began to become noticed on the health food market. Were hemp seeds going to be the next avocado toast (bleh)?

When I dove into my research, I was pleasantly surprised. According to Medical News Today, "These small, brown seeds are rich in protein, fiber, and healthful fatty acids, including omega-3s and omega-6s. They have antioxidant effects and may reduce symptoms of numerous ailments, improving the health of the heart, skin, and joints."

The article went on to explain that 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds have as much as 9.46g of protein. This is great for people like me looking for high protein alternatives to chicken and beef.

As an added bonus, this superfood also contains fiber, potassium, magnesium, and several different vitamins.

In an article published by Healthline in September of 2018, they explored several evidence-based benefits from hemp seeds including potential skin benefits, digestion aid, heart health, and a reduction in symptoms associated with PMS and menopause.

With more people becoming health conscious and looking for new and sustainable ways to add healthy options to their diet, hemp seeds can help fill a gap in the market. What we eat is linked directly to our health, and by adjusting our diets to fit our body's needs, we give ourselves a chance to live our best lives possible.
