Does CBD Have An Impact On Your Dreams?

Dreams can be weird and can be brought on by a million and one things. Food, stress, alcohol...the list goes on. But what about CBD? In a previous article, we discussed the research behind CBD and sleep. So let's take that one step further and discuss what happens after we fall asleep.

According to the Clevland Clinic, "Experts believe the brainstem generates REM sleep and the forebrain generates dreams." The REM cycle is the light part of our sleep cycle and we cycle in and out of it throughout the night. Though we have a good idea of how dreams are formed, it's hard to pinpoint exactly how they work.

While CBD can cause drowsiness* and can help us fall asleep, does it increase our potential to dream? According to the Ministry of Hemp, "there is currently little evidence to suggest that it is going to give you strange dreams during the night."

A 2017 study found some interesting preliminary results as to why some people dream after they take CBD and why some do not. The study states, "...recent work has suggested that specific cannabinoids (THC and CBD) have a differential impact on sleep. This is further influenced by the dosage, ratio of cannabinoids, timing of administration, and route of administration."

However, they stressed, "Research on cannabis and sleep is in its infancy and has yielded mixed results. Additional controlled and longitudinal research is critical to advance our understanding of research and clinical implications."

CBD impacts everyone differently, and how we take CBD can have a large impact as well. Modern science has its work cut out for them when it comes to overcoming the hurdles associated with dreams and CBD. At the time of this writing, it is safe to say that how you ingest CBD and your body's natural makeup will shape how you react and whether or not you will see a difference when it comes to dreams.

*Always consult with your doctor before taking CBD if you are on any prescribed medications
