With Metrc being implemented in Oklahoma before May ends and OMMA ramping up inspections amidst changing laws, it has been a hectic start to 2022. It's safe to say Oklahoma cannabis regulations have been a minefield for the better part of two years, and it is giving compliance professionals more than a few grey hairs.

Compliance professionals may hold one of the less glamorous jobs within the industry but are one of the key aspects for success. In a nutshell, compliance professionals are what help keep the legal weed legal. Not having the right person in that position could wrack up massive fines for your business.

But the legal battle with Metrc and rapidly changing regulations have created pitfalls compliance professionals have to deal with every day. And on top of that, OMMA inspections are nerve wracking no matter how prepared you are.

So please, check on your compliance people. We are not okay.

You can help make your compliance person's life easier by following SOPs and keeping any documentation (waste logs, inspection logs, etc.) organized. Just these simple steps can make a compliance professional's life easier. As any compliance person will tell you (no matter the industry), organization in a team is one of the major keys for success.

While responsible and reasonable regulation is needed, it has been a rocky road on the way there. And while there are a lot of things compliance individuals may require to remain up to code, it is in order to keep your legal marijuana business in operation.

And if you work in compliance, remember to take a breath every once in a while and ask for help if you need it. Your sanity, and your team, will thank you.
