Despite all the different opinions in the world, we can all agree on one thing; Puppies are adorable. They are fuzzy little balls of energy that make your heart melt. However, can these adorable little balls of energy have CBD?

CBD products for pets can be found in pet stores across the nation. Products specifically marketed towards cats and dogs are among some of the most popular. Pet parents have turned to this alternative for a number of reasons, including cost, availability, and current research results.

For example, in a previous article, we discussed how CBD could offer potential benefits for older pets. CBD's anti-inflammatory properties are part of what has made this hemp-derived product so popular. Other studies have observed how CBD can be used in the fight against other illnesses that plagued our pets.

But how old do your puppies need to be before they can have CBD products? There are a few things that can help determine whether or not it is a good idea.

Nursing Puppies

Puppies typically will nurse on their mother for the first 6 to 8 weeks of life. The mother dog will try to ween them off during the last few weeks and puppy food can be introduced. During this time, please do not give your puppies CBD. They are currently undergoing many changes and finding the right serving size of CBD will be next to impossible. Additionally, most products formulated for pets are made with adult dogs and cats in mind.

During Their Shots

Getting the required shots for your puppy is another big change in their little lives. During this time, introducing CBD into their system may wind up causing adverse reactions. At the time of this writing, we do not know how CBD will interact with the standard shots most dogs receive during their puppy years.

Make a Game Plan With Your Vet

As CBD becomes more popular and research is expanding, the greater our knowledge. Once your puppy has had all of its shots, it is advisable to talk with your vet to see when incorporating CBD into your pet's routine is ideal. Just like humans, CBD can impact each dog differently. Your vet should be able to help create a plan on how to best incorporate CBD into your pet's life.

We all want the best for our pets. CBD has become a popular option for many pet owners, but understanding when to incorporate it into your pet's routine is important. And as more data becomes available, we will have a better understanding of just how to use CBD to help our pets live the best lives possible.
